Hi All,
I am starting to notice that a greater proportion of my young (60%+) look like being hens...has anyone else noticed a greater proportion of hens than normal
Cheers

So far i have 4 Goulds in a holding cabinet from 1 pair (2 clutches)
Yesterday i checked the nest that the Goulds (same pair) where using i could see 1 baby just hatched the hen was in there when i checked.she did not move.
I had a pair in the cabinet but they where just laying infertile eggs so they are in the avairy now.
Will get some pics asap

3 of 5 newest fledglings..
I think they're green, yellow and sfyb.
They're from sfyb pb rh cock and yb pb rh hen
Is that what others possibly think too?

From that pairing you can get DF and SFYB cocks, YB hens and GB hens.
Nice looking babies.

Hi All,
Having a great first season with blue back Gouldians from Mr Tino. Every batch 7 fertile eggs. I am already trying to work out where to put a new flight for the fledglings. If anyone from SA wants some blue splits, I'm your Guy.
See Ya
Jason

Have had a slow start to the Gouldian season but am now quite happy:
Have 3 fledglings from a BH Pair out now for 2 weeks, checked on the parents nest yesterday (have been away for a week) and found 5 x eggs within.
Have 2 almost fledglings from a new RH pair that I think should have been out on the weekend but decided that it was too damm cold and stayed in bed!!!!
Another nest belonging to an orange head male with a yellow back - OHYB???- and a BH female (who formed a relationship when each others partners died) also has 6 eggs in it (this is the 2nd attempt with this pair as their initial clutch of 5 eggs were tossed out 1 x 1 over a period of a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed with this pair.
A sad start to my first nest of Ruddies this year, was careful not to disturb the pair as they built their nest, robbed other nests, defended their nest from other ruddies, disappeared for a while as they incubated an unknown number of eggs, was delighted to hear the sounds of hatchlings for about 5 days and then silence, utter silence. Observed the parents stop entering the nest, in fact went no where near it once the sounds stopped. Waited a few days and checked out the nest. Found 3 dead babies, crops full to almost bulging. Only change was a cold snap on about the 5th night. maybe too cold for these little ones.
Interesting thing was that my other 3 pairs of firefinchs stopped their nesting behaviour at this time as well. this afternoon however noticed a coople of the males starting to gather nesting materials again. Fingers Crossed.
