Should I dose my 2 week old gouldians with invermectin when I do the rest of the birds or will the parents give them immunity while feeding their young ? thanks in advance for any opinions
Imo, you are getting a little obsessed. Three posts back Tiaris mentioned what he and every one else does. Marcus's writings are way out of date with the use of alcohol when back then we were using animal stock wormers eg cattle, pig and sheep wormers, these days water is the norm for mixing.
These days moxidecton plus is all you need which is available from the merchandise here in AFF.
Moxidecton plus treats airsac mites and most worms including tape worms. The dosage rate is 5ml to one litre of water given as their drinking water for three days for worms and airsac mites for the whole flock. If you have only a few birds you can place two drops undiluted on the bare skin on the back of the neck, lift the feathers to access the bare skin OR place one drop on the bare skin under the wing pit of both wings. The birds will preen that area and will ingest some that wont effect them as the dosage is very safe WITH ADULT BIRDS, there is no need to dose healthy young birds.
I'm sure you can buy a smaller amount from here but the shelf life of moxidecton plus can be more than double if kept in the refrigerator and shaken well before use. Craig
