My week has been poor
My goudians got night fright from the shaking of the earth wake hens come out
of nest boxes sitting on chicks 3 nest boxes lost 12 young they were stone cold
in the nests there were 5 blues 2 silver 2 pastels and 3 splits now thats bad luck
it really peed me off well thats gouldian breeding

I feel your pain...it breaks your heart when you loose birds through no fault of your own.
Obviously mother nature needs to remind us that we are not always in control of everything

Well after a very slow start to the season, both my pairs of normal black heads have put young on the perch within a week of each other.

Glad to say my normal BHs are not having the same problems this year as other breeders in colder southern areas. Been cold here lately but having/had the best Gouldian season for the past 5 years. A few unfeathered young dead in the nest on extra cold mornings at the 9-10 day old mark but many more survivors - should end up with 65-70 reared off 6 pairs.

lost my only baby blue this week but have heaps of splits.
My first season with blues and I can't complain.
I thought my season was over, but my blue cock with a split hen & my split cock with the silver hen are sitting on furtile eggs. This will be my last chance before taking the boxes out. I'm still optimistic about having more blues, pastels and silvers for next season.
