A question and queries from a NSW resident.
I have watched with dismay how this saga has dragged on.
I have been assured by a VAC executive that progress was being made, at this stage I do not think so.
There hasn't been any formal information or access to meeting reports/notes to my knowledge yet VAC
members are entitled to them. Why not.
The people giving their time is admirable and they are good people with avicultures interest at the fore front
but sadly in my opinion if the facts given to me are correct they are out of their depth and are simply being stalled
and given lip service.
I am not suggesting burning down city hall or being abusive AT ALL.
What I want to see are people capable of handling bureaucrats and advisors, if non are available in Victoria then
seek Sam Davis or Gary Fitt's advice and the current people work with them but being directed by them totally.

Terrible idea. That will only give the critics of aviculture more ammunition to paint the hobby as lawless free-for-all.

Yes i agree people will get out the hobby if nothing gets done and it seems the ones that are trying to do something are just getting the run around.

Sometimes you need to stand up for yourself and directly take on those who attempt to hinder you with no justification. I don't propose a lawless free for all but rather a direct challenge to the effect and basis of the regulation to render it unenforceable in the complete absence of any reasonable explanation/information from the government at any level. This requires a commitment (if the government attempts to charge people - which I very much doubt would occur) to challenge the regulation head on. They are currently urinating on you in public. I know I wouldn't take that for a second. If it is made clear in writing to the relevant department that this is a direct challenge to the regulation/legislation & that you will go all the way to see it eliminated in the very clear absence of reasonable explanation/information/action from the minister/bureaucracy following genuine & sustained attempt by aviculture to seek real consultation, there wouldn't be a bureaucrat in the country with the balls to attempt to enforce this.

Living in Qld, where we have been discriminated against since I have been keeping birds . . and before,

My opinion is that if you don't challenge these people, they will keep grinding you down . . and will probably do so even if you do challenge

The 'animal rights people' have just shut down the entire Greyhound Industry in NSW . .

THEY HAVE got "CLOUT"

The 'Bird Industry' is pretty small beer compared with that . .

You can keep complying . . keep being nice, obedient, (unfair)law-abiding citizens, in the belief that 'they' will see that you are 'nice' people and they will 'do the right thing by you' . .

But they WON"T :hothead: :hothead: :hothead:

You've got nothing to lose . .

And everything to gain . .

The greyhound people lost in the court of public opinion. The animal right activists made a lot of noise about the fact that they openly defied the (reasonable) regulation leveled against them, and as a result their hobby has been completely eradicated.

But sure, lets follow their example. I'm sure it'll work out completely different.
