King quails are probably mature within 10 weeks of hatching.
I think if she was egg bound you'd know it, she'd not be looking well.
Try putting another male in there for a few hours, sometimes competition can get a male interested!

Oh they'll almost certainly fight - just as long as you remove him quickly. Best to get a loan from someone than buy a whole nother one! That's what you want, for one to establish dominance. Hen the hen goes and mates with the victor

Don't get me wrong I don't fight them!! Just need to establish a dominant male.

As soon as you put another male in the cage they will be fighting. Keep a close eye on them as the dominant male will peck the weaker one and not stop until he is not a threat any longer which usually means that he is pretty sick looking.
Same with chicks. They need to be removed before they start showing any adult male color. I learnt the hard way.

When I had them with finches, I think that dense planting and/or branches of gum tree because as the leaves die they fall on the ground and my quail built nests out of.

The only "hen" I have ever had that does not lay is my hermaphradite. Who has just changed back to a cock for the 3rd or 4th time. Had never really taken a lot of notice of how long quail lived before breeding this bird. It is strange "oddball" is over 10 years old, and everything else has died before that age. Could it be that never having to exert its self to reproduce it is fitter?
