I unambiguously welcome all/any scientific research on finches. Any chance to add to existing knowledge on the birds we are interested in is a great thing and can only be of benefit to aviculture and ornithology. If at the end of the day the findings of the research stand up to critical questioning by all comers, then that's fantastic. But please lets look at the findings from all angles, including the critical, to be ultimately confident in the contribution it makes to understanding our finches better.
I will always read with great interest any research findings on finches & to give them the respect they deserve I will think about what is discussed/observed/concluded in the context of existing knowledge of and experience with the species concerned. I seriously doubt that any credible scientist expects people with a lifelong interest in the field of their research to blindly accept their findings without rigourously examining what they are proposing.
Thanks for posting the PF findings & I welcome any future ones on the forum.
