Tomorrow, is supposed to be another scorcher, so I'm trying to prepare for it. Kind regards.

Wouldn't the constant attention and the cleaning out of your cages cause more heat stress for your birds? I'm guessing they fly when you approach their cage? I changed the waters twice (morning and late arvo) and hosed the roof and walls down, being careful not to approach from the front where the birds would see me.

Not really, I believe they are used to me, Pictorella. Most of the birds just sit and watch me. The canaries, don't even leave their nest. The Gouldians just watch me, as most of the other birds. The only ones that are slightly flighty are the Orange breast and red faced parrot finches, but only to the extent they go from floor to top perch, and back to floor soon as I shut their doors. Then again, I'm out there sweeping, vacuuming and mopping everyday. So they're kind of used to me and don't consider me much of a disturbance.
I try to be considerate of neighbors, and do everything possible to reduce attracting vermin. Or allowing any odor. Other than that I don't bother the birds. Kind Regards

PS: Even my avairy raised mutation rainbow lorikeets dance when I go out there, and will sit on my hand while I reaching in to get water and/or feed dishes. It's awesome.

How do others help their birds through the extreme heat?

I just make sure their water is topped up, feed them early & don't disturb throughout the day.

I do the same.

Many of my birds are still in cages and this is where they are most susceptible to heat imo. They don't have the luxury of hiding down low (hot air rises) and no cooling vegetation. They need particular preparation for the hot times and be left alone to be quiet during the heat.

Just went out to check on the birds. The temperature is well over 40c and the birds are all on the ground, sitting on and under their water and livefood containers (has a mote). Gave the aviary another hosing and let a fair amount of spray drift into the aviaries. I've placed shade cloth, which I'm keeping wet, on the roof above where the Auroras are nesting but both birds are off the nest and hiding on the ground :(

Well, taking this advise and Puctorella's that I may be disturbing my birds. I backed off until I couldn't take it anymore. Three canaries died of heat stroke, two hen blue faces, 1 cock black headed Gouldian. 4 others birds I was able to pull through by running them in the house and soaking them with cool water. I then moved a 100+ birds into the house, and fainted in the process. Overall, I guess I know what is best for my birds and their arrangements. I'm still recovering from it.
Regards.
PS: it's still 41 C/105 F out.
Also was surprised with new pair of Latino Rainbow Lorikeets.

Do what is right for your scenario.

I dont hose down roofs or put ice blocks in water containers. I do the same as what has been advised here.

I have a timber framed and cladded aviary set-up here. Tin roof sections painted white, with green shade cloth over the tin sections.

We haven't reached the temperatures that you are experiencing yet, although I have not had any birds die from the heat even in the hottest part of the summer.

Regards.
