As far as I'm aware, silverbeet doesn't have the same problem.

I hope that is the case, spinach is rarely seen here in Queensland and silver beet prevails, my birds can't get enough.

Agree with you Robbo,

Walk the dogs each day and collect dandelion and milk thistle, they love it, not just the goulds but also stars and painteds. Found a real good patch of chickweed last week and they loved it too! Next couple of weeks should see the winter grass in full flow, then you will really see greens eaten. Last year had them climbing the wire at feeding time because of the winter grass they saw I had to feed them.

When I have problems with the dandelion and thistle have used baby bok choy but my birds don't take to it very well, probably because they are used to dandelion/milk thistle/wintergrass.

Thanks for your help, in summer i have my own patch of seeding grasses growing in a fenced off area in my backyard. I have been trying spinach etc but only some were taking it so after reading this yesterday went out today and got bok choy, broccoli and kale. I put all 3 of veges in each aviary, The gouldians went straight to the kale. In one of the other aviaries, the stars and cubans got into the broccoli and in another one, they started eating bits of all of it. So thanks for the help.

If it works for you keep doing it. I find that everyone has their own little foibles that work for them but not for others. That is what makes this hobby so good, your experience may/will help others down the track.

So do I, but I seem to have let it take over more of the yard each year. :parp: Ah well, good excuse for being a slack gardener, and the birds don;t half love it. They are waiting for me whenever i take it to them.

My gouldians eat like cows

They love buffalo grass, they eat the roots, stem and leaf
