What you are saying is true, but where are the helpers-purists,that either had or knew of a Siskin cockbird that could have been bought-traded etc and made known so that IT could have been used and not wasted?.The people that had this bird [and there would be one,or more],sat on their hands and said nothing and people knowing the whereabouts of one did the same. Not even a suggestion as to who he could contact as to procurring one,if he so wished.Again, though this hen has lost a season for breeding her own kind,if she successfully raises this clutch,it is still a win as she now has the experience required to be a successful breeder.

I don't recall a request for a male at all.

That is my point,so many people are so had up about this, yet none offered a name or even a phone number for him to ring in the hope that he may get a male, so that he did not continue with this pairing.Even though one does not come out and say help,if someone else can see a problem, then maybe some form of positive contact-information could be afforded to this person. We are here to help each other and that is what we should do,even if it is only forwarding on a name.

If elferoz already has 5 pairs of them I don't think a Yellow Siskin supplier is at all the issue.
Btw, I also have a spare hen atm if anyone wants it to put to a male of its own kind for what's left of this season.

That is your opinion only and everybody else can make up their own mind.

I don't see how it could be a matter of my opinion at all, when he has a decent number of them already (so knows from experience where to source them if need be) and he hasn't asked for a male.

You are missing my point. My point was that people are so concerned, but no offer of help in any shape or form was given. It doesn't matter that he had not asked,if said people are so worried-concerned,they could have tried to help and who is to say that he had not exhausted all his contacts trying to get a male.Anyhow enough is enough,we could debate this forever.

It all boils down to Elferoz's passion to do this. Yes i am dead against it as well but if his passion is to produce these birds out of curiosity and ethnically well that is up to him.
At no stage did he ask for a yellow siskin cock bird because his passion is to do this just to see what the result looks like and i'm pretty sure these hybrids won't leave his backyard and if they do i'm pretty sure they WILL be infertile so only good for fostering or singers.
Enough is enough guys, there will be no winners here. Craig

Don't worry, there is no animosity whatsoever between myself or Tiaris. It was just a discussion and food for thought from both of us.

on the topic of as spare male if anyone is heading to young bird sale and has one I would like to take it as I sure as sugar aint going to breed one this season with the poor results all round.
I bred this guy for a few reason as mentioned, namely
The spare hen and cock and no I couldn't source another
the challenge
the need for good fosters if its a hen
the interest its its possible appearance
song. I like the goldfinch song but yellow siskins sing all year round albeit poorly (mine do anyway). So yes I want a song bird with the song of a goldfinch and the frequency of song that comes with a yellow siskin.
I posted this as an interest project as there are many on this forum who will have an interest. I to have encountered a fellow who wanted all my red siskin young, I verbally agreed to sell them to him until he boasted about how much he could sell them for as mules with canaries and goldfinches. I then elected to sell them to an old lady down the coast.
The hen I have is so tame she will at greens out of my hen and will be a cherished bird regardless of her breeding success. I do think this experience will benefit her. There are no plans to mass produce mules on a grand scale and as mentioned its more of a hobby/special interest and well as a cultural one I guess given my uncle in Spain kept birds until he got too old.
As for future generations for our hobby I am the forefront of it. I am currently the president of one of the FSA branches and I have positions within other finch related organisations also. That doesnt mean I will be running a mule breeding death cult or that I have any other agenda. My goal is to raise awareness, and encourage interest in the hobby in all its forms and that is primarily lead by the interest of my members more so than my own unique interests. Learn and share knowledge.
As mentioned there will be a large number of people who will have an interest in this project. I would rather broadcast it then have some half wit at a bird sale boasting about how much he got for a mule as that will then suck in those who a money hungry and before you know it there will be the issue there in the parrot world atm with galah crosses, princess cross with superbs ect ect. I think the counter arguments to my project are good for this purpose.
this is a win win discussion. All of us will learn from this, young and old new to the hobby or veteran.
