I agree with you Deb about the registering of cats. I have to register my dogs and they dont go into other peoples property at night and poop all over the place. So registering/neutering cats would get my vote.

I still feel sorry for the cat that got shot though.

Back when we used to have cats they were always taken off to the vet for desexing before
6 months of age. They are destructive sods, but lovable in their way.
Sound a bit like humans don't they?

you never own a cat, it chooses to stay with you so long as the food is ok and there is somewhere warm to sleep.
other than that they do as they please, when they please. as a bird lover I believe that cats should be on the same list as foxes and rabbits

By the sound of them butcher birds.Its a shame you can train cats to chase them,and no other.

It's probably getting off topic but it's odd that it is bird keepers that have to be registered, regulated and viewed with suspicion when you consider the impact of aviculture on the environment compared to the right to own a cat and grant it the freedom to roam. I guess the public, the electorate, politicians and law makers are able to forgive indiscretions by adorable felines but those weird aviculturists that imprison innocent birds for their own perverted pleasure must be controlled lest everyone get the idea that locking up animals regulating their breeding catches on.

I guess I'm tortured by the fact that I've been offered 15 wild caught green-faced parrot-finches and I'm trying to resist the temptation.

where's the temptation??? if the price is right & the birds appear healthy then into the aviary they should go

Whats the problem Ive heard wild finches are often known to just jump into peoples aviaries

The poor things are obviously in need of food and shelter.
Giving this to them would be an act of Charity.

You guys aren't making it any easier. Green-faced are notoriously difficult to keep here although I suspect that's because no one has aviaries offering a shelter/retreat area, fruit or live food. The other disadvantage is that they are being offered as lot of 15 birds at P3000 a pair which is ~AUD$1100 which is way abouve my limit and would leave me with a heap of illegally acquired birds. Still the idea of being the first to breed them here is appealing.
