My Gouldian results from my red head normals X red head normal gave me all red head with no splits or black heads. I'm very happy about this. Was expecting to see a few black heads. This is from only three pair with 17 young. I know red head is the dominate gene but I thought I would see some recessive black heads.
Not very good with genetics, can any splits still be present?

Also my Painted's are producing lots of young 17 from 2 pair.The second pair I haven't had for long but have had 1 nest of 4 young.My first pair which took 6 months and 6 nest attempts have produced 4,5 & 4 young. Only started breeding well when I put another male in with them.

Diamonds no result yet.Alas

Sound like you have some "true" RH birds there. My understanding is if the parent birds are "true" RH then all the young would be also.
50% Male >> Red (Head) - Purple (Chest) - Green (Body)
50% Female >> Red (Head) - Purple (Chest) - Green (Body)

If the male was split to black then you could get a result like this....(thank you Carlos Matos)

25% Male >> Red / Black (Head) - Purple (Chest) - Green (Body)
25% Male >> Red (Head) - Purple (Chest) - Green (Body)
25% Female >> Black (Head) - Purple (Chest) - Green (Body)
25% Female >> Red (Head) - Purple (Chest) - Green (Body)

with the 3 RH pairs and 17 offspring I would think that you would have seen a BH in there somewhere if that was the case.

Any splits to YH in either of the parent birds would not show visually in the young but some would be split to YH

I thought if the male were split to black I should see some black heads in one of the sexes.
That's clears it up for me though. Wanting 100% "true" RH birds.

I had 2 pairs breeding this last year.

Pair 1

RH PC GB x RH WC GB
5 young 3 male 2 female

Pair 2
RH PC/wc YB x BH PC YB
4 young 1 male 3 female

Pair 1 & 2
RH PC/wc YB x RH WC GB (Female from pair 1 with male from pair 2 while he was raising another clutch! )
4 young all RH WC YB females (Is pics in another post)

So in the green backs I ended up with 1 more male but in the yellow backs the percent of females was lot higher.
