The green patches on the back would indicate to me that it is an australian recessive yellow.

yes i do agree with matt with it being a Australian yellow back with the greenish splotches on the back

SF Yellows can also have green splotches or a green feather as well, though; particularly this happens when the bird is Lilac or White Breast.
We do not have the AY mutation here so I guess that trickies things up a bit.

In regards to this thread, what would be the be the best way to learn about SF, DF, recessive, sex-linked etc etc

I have only been into birds for a few years and I get pretty confused sometimes Is there a good basic starting point, or a website on this, that might help get the basics in order?

Any thoughts would be great ;)

I have read this and found it helpful. It explains the general terms in a way I found easy to understand. There are also further sections showing how this relates to head, breast and back colour.

I saw some unusual Gouldians at a pet store in the western suburbs yesterday, the aqua/blue from around the face and bib was very strong, and had bled down into the edges of the breast coloration and around the tail area.

The birds were normals in every other way, except for the excessive colour bleeding.

There were 3 cocks in the cage at the store, and they weren't great looking birds by anyone's standards, but the coloration might make them worth having on it's own.

Cal - I would definately be tempted to try breeding those cocks to normal hens then the young from one cock to the young from another to see if you can perpetrate the extension of colour.
