The effect is similar to what can happen with Opaline Budgies where the body colour sometimes continues up the back of the head into the cap/mask. I like it. All the best with developing this mutation/variation. And keep up the info.

I love opaline budgies and had not even made that conection with the head color. We are only seeing it on the male sf pastels (dilutes). I have my 2 males paired up but no chicks yet. Will keep you posted as to the outcome. Both of my males took over a year to show the color. The first GB sf pastel when he did his first adult moult. The BB sf pastel when he came into breeding condition. I believe both of the males are about 1.5 years old.
So it may be a while before I know if the chicks get any 'blueheads'

Quite possible Crazy. With the Opaline budgie the head is white or yellow and the better the bird the cleaner the head and the futher down the back the clear "mantle" goes. Some breeders breed specifically for this clear mantle (like my mum) some don't seem to bother. But if the Gouldian blue head is the Gouldian equivalent then yes it should be possible to have the colour spread. Cando and Nixity any hatchings yet?

I don't think it's related to the blue body mutation only because it occurs in SF Pastel Greens (SF Yellows/"Dilutes" over in the US) as well as the SF Pastel Blues.
So those are birds that do not even have the blue body mutation present.

My male had a clutch of six eggs with his hen but only one was fertile and hatched - it was a normal baby so likely wouldn't display the trait anyways. As it turns out, they didn't feed the single chick anyways and it ended up dying.
So - I am just waiting on them to begin a new clutch and try again. As of yesterday no new eggs yet :/

My fellow tossed a chick... I revived it, supplimented it and placed under societies that had a clutch of newborns. 3 days later it is still alive but still looks a bit dehydrated and shriveled. I may have found him too late on the cage floor. I do believe in miracles though. There was one more fertile egg and I put that in the societies nest also.
My male is a BH PB GB sf or Dilute. I paired him with a BH PB YB hen. The hen is experienced but he is just 1 year old so a bit young to be a good Daddy. Though he has added 4 eaten millet spray sprigs to his coco fiber nest...He is an elaborate decorator... unlike most of my gouldians.
My blue headed pastel, BH PB BBsf has been paired but no eggs so far. He is older so hopefully he will be a good Daddy and keep the young IN the nest.
It took close to a year for the blue color to appear on the head so even with chicks it will be a while before I see if they get this trait passed on. But will keep you posted of any exciting colors.

Good night

My name is Ivan Vera and together with my father, we are dedicated to breeding and study of Gouldiane. I've seen that in this forum speech, gouldiane mutation in blue.

comparate I would like my website, where you can find some blue gouldiane mutations, Sr, Juan Farrat of Cuba.

Regards, and hope you can help on the issue of mutation in a blue head.

Ivan your blue head is a paricularly attractive bird. Can you tell us what breeding you used to achieve this? Look forward to your reply.

I thought I would update on my attempt to establish some blue head dilutes (sf pastel greens)
My original male passed much to young but he did leave me with 3 nice chicks. One sf yellow showing nice blue to the head, the other two a little, they are young still.
However, the original blue heads sisters were bred and they are carrying the gene. Here are their chicks all grown up and breeding at the moment. Check them out here, I have more pics in the natural sunlight that I will get posted soon.
