I would be surprised if its a vitamin or mineral deficiency. All my birds get Solaminovit Liquid on the chitted seed at least a few times a week plus is available in drinkers at all times and have also either biocal or livamol available plus a salt and mineral block aswell to pick at these when they need. Also vitamin E once a week.It is very odd how I bought the parents of these birds they never breed for years, then this poped up last year in a youngster who still has the same white on it.Then this year on the bird in the photo. No other birds are showing the same feather whiteness out of hundreds of birds on the same diet.Another birdo said it could be either pied or a Lysine deficiency.I think I will have to keep these birds and see what happens.Maybe the white will go on the other one,in 12 to 18 months it has not changed.

Hi Gomer, the original first pic with the single white full flight feather,i would say is the beginning of pied (light pied) The other pics where there is only partial white in the feather is not classed as pied and is defficient in some thing or over indulging in an other.I have been breeding finches for over 40 years now,and any young bred with that partial white in the flights has either kept it for a couple of years and lost it and have never passed it on as pied to their young.A sibling to that full white flighted bird might also be split to pied and would be the best way to get pied young for one mating, but only if paired by themselves in an aviary Cheers Craig

I am having a catch up in that aviary tomorrow so will have another look. The second bird was just moulting out when the photo was taken but i can see from a distance the same markings or white atleast.I will keep the birds Craig for a few years untill either the markings disappear or don't show up anymore. At least this way I can keep track of pairing them and not loose a recessive gene if they turn out to have pieds in them.
