Thanks Laureen, interesting reading.
So King Quail is actually one of the smallest and a Button quail, which you would expect to be smaller given the name is slightly bigger

I always find it strange that something called miniature is not always the smallest.....language is a strange thing.
Same deal in the dog world sometimes too. With Toy poodles being smaller than miniature poodles.....

No I think Button Quail are smaller.Possibly nearly as long but slimmer than the King Quail.
King Quail are rather rounded.Black breasted and Painted are quite alot larger.

I have a pair of wild sourced king quail and they aren't flightly at all and come and feed from the dishes as I place the new food into it. Individual personalities may make a difference to how well tehy getr on with other birds but I wouls say this species is no problem. Raising young van be a challence but I'm sure you didn't get inot the hobby just to take on species that represent no challenge.

I've always hand fed my quail from a young age to get them use of me being around.
They rarley take to flight when I enter and usually run up to me to be fed.
Would like to try black brested & button quail.

Hi Will 36
I would Try little Button first, the Black Breasted are Great but they are Serious Earth Movers. Dont underestimate them.

I've always wanted little button quails, but my attachment to the 6 Kingies I have now, and the fact I only have one aviary has restricted me.

i used to have a pair in my little aviary and now i have only 1 quail left and they where never a problem but there was this one time when i went outside to check on my birds and my male quail was in a food troth about 30-60 centimeters off the ground and that was the male that got his head pecked by a big quail i think it was a king quail
