Hand rearing 4 Quarrions at the moment , went to Orange yesterday thinking they would be OK to wait for the next feed an extra hour or 2 .... it was utter chaos when I got home 4 screaming chicks and when I opened the cage to feed them they all decided they could fly and literally attacked me .
I couldnt feed them properly it was madness , food flying , birds escaping and me near on in tears of frustration ... LOVE IT ...

Glad to hear all is going well Spanna. With the weather over here getting a little summerlike you could have to do this more often. Would they need a bit of water between food feeds?

i'm keeping a close eye on skin colour to judge their level of hydration (pink being good, red being bad) and have been making meals a little more watery than usual to keep hydration up. also keeping an eye on their droppings to check for the amount of uric acid:other waste being deposited... if its about 50:50 then i see that as pretty good, if there's only a small amount of uric acid (the white stuff for anyone who isn't sure) then it means it's highly concentrated and they're a bit dehydrated, so more water :) hope my understanding of finch biology is on track...
