Its supposed to be like water devining.I think some people believe everything has a inner or magnetic force.So I suppose the metal would react to a magnetic force,If that was so maybe males and females would have a diferent magnetic field,or what ever is causing the change in swing.I personally dont believe in non ferous metals working or checking human unborn babies.All I know is I have a very good hit rate with it, that I cant explain on birds.But as said before on monomorphic birds I still get some DNA.

My Grandfather used to do it for canaries, & would get near on 100%. No good if you get DT's though

Hey Dano-68....caught your story in the QFS about diamond sexing,good on u,i need all the help sexing them i can get.
85% success rate is pretty good
99.9% with immatures blows me away......by the way how many did you try to miss 0.1% !!!!

Not sure if i agree 100% as some show opposite traits but if we can be correct 85% of the time thats pretty good.

Maybe we need a boffin who could experiment with ultra violet lights or such because the birds have no trouble telling each other apart, so they see something that we dont.

Magnetic fields/needling etc not so sure...... no bridges/towers needed up this way.

I've often wondered if putting them under a blacklight might pick up some visual cues that might not be visible otherwise, but have never had the opportunity to test it out...

I mentioned this before with reference to Gouldians and the head colours and Im getting more convinced about it now, they have to be seeing different colour spectrum in cocks and hens.
