I have gravel in my big aviary and love it , the top layer is always dry .
No chance of that now the garden supplies place is under water ...

Different horses for different courses. What suits one will not always suit another.

I have always liked river sand, more course and easier to keep clean, just rake over every once and a while and its good as new. Also if it gets wet seems to dry out very quick.

I have crusher dust in mine and it dries out as soon as the rain stops, not that it has stopped much for the last month or so. Works well and easy to clean, will be putting some more down for my new aviaries. My aviary is open also, no roof, but has a roost where the birds can go in the rain. Have shade cloth over the top, but needs more.

Owning a vw baja buggy I get up noosa north shore Driving/fishing and have often brought back beach sand for my small siskin aviaries which looks great when fresh but if it stays wet, it skinks. I would go river gravel.
