Hi all,the Desert Park has an annual twitch-a-thon in Alice. The winning team spotted 119 species this year and the next 6 months woud be a great time to venture out here for the twitchers amongst you.The Parks collection has a few species like Dusky Grass wrens,Black honeyeaters and Sitellas that you might not see anywhere else. Not sure if this post went on twice but mine seem to disappear sometimes. Not very smart but i can lift heavy stuff lol.

Glad to hear that you are fine VR. And desert if you let Spanna know in advance next time people are going to be traipse after birds he might dash out there. Though he is more into counting and catalougueing I think. So is my girl for that matter.

Well they also do a bird survey every month and count species in particular areas, thats been ongoing for ten years and a previous staff member is turning that info into a Phd.They have trapped and banded many species over a ten year period and i joined in one morning recently. Some splendid wrens and Redthroat were retrapped in an area where they were previously trapped several years ago.Its interesting work and some of the survey recording is open to the public to join in but very few know about it .There is a bit of stuff that goes on here that the general public and tourists miss out on as its not well advertised. If any birdos are heading out here just let me know and i will try and put in touch with the serious twitchers.

Mind if I ask which uni your ex work mate is doing his/her PhD with? Just that my girl is busy researching which uni's are offering what with a view to her PhD in 12 months time. Cheers. She's at Murdoch same as Spanna at the moment.

I'm baaaack, bit the bullet & forked out $800 big ones to Hardly Normal for a new tower, so should be back with avengance when it is finally set up propely, going to be the main drive for the network. Not much has been happening in my part of the world, flat out over Xmas/ new years with work, still cut off north & south at present, but h'way should be open tomorrow, I hope. Did unfortunately lose my Eclectus cock bird just after new years, after two trips to the vets in Coffs Harbour, a 1.25 hour drive ( 2 with the road works), the first of wich I didn't get their until 6.15 in the evening & $200 a trip. So now I'll have to part with some more hard earned cash to get a new one, but thats got to wait till next month, after I fork out another grand to register the car.
