Hi Shaun,
Very sorry to hear of your losses, same thing happened to me 2 years ago when I was in Queensland with work and my wife was looking after my finches.
Judging on the address in your profile I live very close to you ( I'm in Narellan )
PM me when you get back home and I can give you as many Zebs as you would like for free and if you want to buy some Gouldians we could work out a good price on them and maybe a pair of stars.
I hope this will help.

Cheers
Framed.
Enjoy every sandwich

Sorry to hear about your loss... that terrible news. I had a massive lost two years back but not with my birds but my salt water tank. My father in-law looked after it for almost two weeks and all was good but he had to go away for work so left his wife (mother in-law) to feed the fish & corals for three days before we got back. Anyway she some how droped the sump light into the tank which took out the power... shes lucky she didn't electrocute herself. Long story short she killed all my corals and most of my fish, just afew thousand dollars worth. Although she felt terrible and I don't blame her at all... my wife is still not happt about this. Hope your birds come good :)

I had bad losses to the heat a few years back so I know how it feels. I'm less than an hour away with plenty of spare gouldians. You're welcome to a pair.

For the future have you considered investing in a bird feeder that you can fill up with seed and as the birds eat it trickles down, great for when you go away.
I use something simular to the below but myne is metal cost me about $40.00 i top it up around every 2 weeks.
