HI All,

The grower informs me that he will have Jap and some white millet available in green seed at the Geelong sale. He hasn't cut the seed yet so let's hope there is no rain between now and next Sunday....he isn't able to tell me prices at this point...cheers, Paul

Farmer was at the Geelong sale...unfortunately he hadn't been able to harvest the green seed due to the weather...he believes the seed should be ready in about 4 weeks time....hopefully that will mean the seed will be ready for the sale in Hamilton at the end of April....cheers, Paul

Grower was at the Shepparton sale, however he has harvested it as dry seed...he tried to explain the reasons why he couldn't pick it as green seed, but it was a bit beyond me....anyhow does anyone in Victoria know of a grower as I would like to give green seed to my birds....if it's too late for picking this year that is fine, but I would like to contact a grower in readiness for when it does become available so that I can store it in my freezer for next year....thanks, Paul

just bringing up this topic again, the grower in shep really wasn't reliable at all this yr due to weather etc....

i was wondering who would be interested in organising a pallet for victoria from the Lowes up in qld.

surely the aviculture society could ask the members if they are interested? get orders and numbers on how many and then order a pallet?

if it doesn't happen, its not the end of the world for me as i have plenty of other green seed options,

i might send an email to the society and see what they reckon....

In Europe green seeds are sold at the bird markets in bunches. They are laid out on tables like Parsley or other herbs at the fruit markets. Generous bunches of whatever seed is available at that time of the year for about $1 - $2 each. I wish we could buy these at the markets or bird shops here in Sydney! :boggle:
