Yes , he doesnt fit the profile of someone buying a bird like that and hmmm yeah dont get me started on about " having children as a means of making money " sadly I had my kids under the wrong political party , I had to work bloody hard for my $$$$$.
Lets hope for a happy ending for the bird anyways ..Im sure he is far better off already just being away from hillbilly bob .

despite the fear of generalising,
sadly, uneducated people with severe drug habits and little job prospects are often mass consumers (and neglecters) of pets.

Bleeding Green, I have only just read through this thread completely and noticed your post where you had taken offence to a comment on dog breeds. While most of us genuinely care for our animals there is unfortunately a large percentage of the population who do have animals as status symbols or to look tough. And with dogs they do usually choose a breed that they believe will bring them the most status or make people afraid of them. These people are the type that matcho was referring to I am sure.
There are some very cruel people out there. And most of the time there is nothing that can be done about them. Around 6 years ago we lived in a house with lovely neighbours. Then the housing commision neighbours moved away and were replaced with a single older man. At first he seemed nice and even said how much he loved birds and listening to mine. Being the friendly person I am I offered to handraise a cockatiel for him. He accepted readily. And so I spent all those weeks feeding and raising this bird purely as a welcome gift. Within 3 weeks of handing it to him it was dead. He gave me no reason or probable theories of cause of death. Things then progressed. He tormented my blue heeler over the fence constantly until the poor dog had mental issues and had to be kept inside. Then because there was no guard dog in the yard my darling tame Alexandrine named Malibu was stolen. Then he got drunk and knocked the dividing fence down. And then the last straw. I had my avairies full of my other birds along the fence line. They were the type with the mesh top flight area at one end. One morning I came out to find every bird in those cages dead. All my breeding ringnecks, alexandrines, finches, quail and cockatiels dead. I had one other cage with my young and spare birds on the other side of the yard and they were fine. I phoned the local police and told them about what I had found and my suspicions. Although the police officer was very sympathetic (and knew the history as the police had been called out numerous times to deal with said neighbour) she said unless I had physical evidence that it was in fact him there was nothing they could do. Despite countless phonecalls and letters to the housing commision nothing was done about this evil person. We had no choice but to sell and move.

Ive always had gut feelings about some people and my partner and I have had quarrels because I refuse to let certain people in the yard or sell them my birds for no other reason than my gut said NO .
Bugger them my birds are not disposable items .

malibu_birdie - that is an awful story. i feel so sorry for people that end up with a neighbour from hell - its especially frustrating since you offered this person so much. unfortunately there is nothing you can do but exactly what you did - move. what were your theories on how this person poisoned your birds?

I was up the pub tonight, and saw on ACA that Angus had finally been located taken into custody of the RSPCA in VIctoria.Couldn' t hear the sound but Tracy Grimshaw was the presenter. Finally after 3 months they have located Angus after a "tip off" because the "birdman" spirited the bird away after the publicity. I couldn't hear properly but I think they said "charges" may be pending and they are looking for people that claim that "Angus" is thiers because they claim he was stolen from the front fence., I don't care where he is, as long as he in in good care and away from the 'birdman". He looks like a beautiful bird with character and I think has been hand raised. My sister has one, same thing , one wing, bitten off in the nest, Ernie is his name just a gem or a bird.
Anyhow just feel good that something has finally come of this. It's been a long time but I think the result has been worth it. One question: Can members of AFF keep in contact with the authority (I think it is RSPCA) in Victoria to see how Angus is doing? Maybe someone of our members would take him as a member of the family.
Jusdeb, lucky you dont live in Victoria because I know that you would be 1st in line.

I sure would Matcho ,such a tolerant bird would make an awesome companion and he certainly deserves to live his days in a stable environment .
Im sure he will be in a new and better home soon and lets hope the RSPCA make an example of birdbrain and throw the book at him.

It is a great result, so far. Hope there are a few "jusdebs" in Victoria, but I am sure our locals down that way will make sure everying gets even better for Angus.
