Thankyou Dianne.................Hey Buzzard.................that is exactly what I intend to do from now on.............too heartbreaking to try to intervene...................but..............if a baby is tossed I will try to put it back................but at the end..........if nature decides............then that is her decision........not mine............again.....thankyou

I know it's heartbreaking and goes against all human nature to let a bay die for any reason, but it's the right thing to do
how is he going today?

how is he going today?

Gotta disagree Jay , if its within ones power to try to save the baby then one should at least try .. now comes the other voice in my head that says it is natures way of selecting the strong in order for the specie to survive .
I dont listen to that voice .
Just call me Cybill ( old movie Jay about a girl with 9 personalities )
I guess its up to the individual and again I mention we are not sheep

I agree with Deb if I can save a baby I will give it my best shot. I successfully raised a baby zebra at xmas even though it took 10 weeks before if finally fed it self. It was the the most travelled zebra finch around, at the moment I am hand raising 3 babies that were found on the aviary floor when they were a couple of days old they are now 6 weeks old the only problem I am finding is like the other baby they seem to take alot longer to wean. I cannot leave them all day without a feed so I cannot plan a all day out and going away at Easter is going to be a problem. To tell you the truth I am not sure if I will do it again but I am abit like you Deb can't help myself. Deb M don't feel bad you did your best and yes it is very heartbreaking and I know it is nature but it does'nt make it any easier. Good luck with your other little birds.

I won't do it but I take my hat off to you all that do
, When I say I let nature take its coarse I contradict myself as I have already interfered by having them caged and out of their own environment and climate. So I shall shut my mouth now I've admitted I'm a hypocrite.

Hey thanks guys...........Buzz you made me laugh
.........Lyn could you tell me what formula you used for your babies????.......I know I would probably try again if the need arises..........but hopefully be better prepared...........I have printed out the info that Jay told me about but I am unable to the get the Paswells mix or Kaytee............my pet store supplies Woombaroo Grainivore mix..........would this be ok to use?????? also if this pair who threw out the babies........will they do the same thing next time????.........Could it be that they are related and thats why??????????...........So many questions........I originally thought that these would be just pets and fun to look at...........didn't think that I would get so in to it.............never thought for an instance that they would breed so quickly..........before I could find out what to do...........but I do love it.........even with the losses.........I'm waiting to be able to give you all good news..........and I guess with one little gould in the nest and peeping very loudly I might add.......and now with feathers.........there is some good news...........and even the tiny zeb is doing well...............cheers Deb

Hi Deb M, I use Passwell's Finch Soft Food if you have a computer put that name in and there is a Online Pet Cart you can get it for $7.95. I mix it with some hand raising formula which is a white powdery mix that I bought off our local bird breeder. It only comes in big packs so he just sells me about $8 worth. I mix a small amount of both together with warm water (that has been boiled). I use a flat toothpick or take the point off a normal one. Have the mixture so it just coats the toothpick and they will grab on to it and take the mixture. If they are very young they only take a very small amount as when their parents feed them it is only equlvalent to a few seeds as they grow bigger they will take more and you can see by their crops how much food is in there. When they were very little the only thing I have to warm them is a small dog heating pad that I bought in The Reject Shop. I have a half little nesting basket which sits on it lined with tissues and also wrap an old tea towel around it to keep them warm. This has worked for me so far I did post some photos on the forum of the babies if you go back. These ones are now fully feathered BUT they take ALONG time before they eat themselves and this is the reason I don"t think I can do it again you are to restricted as they need to be fed often. Good luck with all your birds and it is a wonderful hobby to have they do give lots of enjoyment in watching them.
