Of the larger conure group, the Nanday’s are the loudest, followed by the Sun, with the Jenday being quietest. All 3 are considerably louder than the Pyrrhura group. That’s why you see so many suns offered for rehoming.

I would say that my male Jenday is probably twice as loud as the Green cheeks. :)

I've never owned the Nandays or Jandays, but my suns are easily the loudest birds in my aviaries. They standout by a mile over the other conures. 1 pair is OK but I think if I had more I'd have issues. A single bird inside would be bearable, but if it had behavioural issues it would be unbearable.

That's why your better off biting the bullet and buying a pair or two now. Atm, it's still easy to find dedicated breeders who concentrate on them and don't cross them because of their value. But once their price drops and they are seen everywhere finding a 'pure' pair will be much harder.

Yeah, and there really is no need for it as there are plenty around. I even saw some for sale at orange this year.

On the today show this morning they were showing some liger cubs (cross between lion and tiger). Apparently they were rejected by their mother so they are being foster reared by a dog. I don't know how they came about but it is totally not needed to save the species??

Had a laugh last Friday when visiting another parrot breeders set ( huge ) all the aussie parrots were up front of the property and way way way down the back where the Sun Conures .

Made it half way down and then turned back , I'm hearing impaired and the bloody noise coming from them was too much.
Seems to be a competition to see who can make the loudest most annoying noise . I believe Quakers are the same .

Here at home the noisiest birds are the gkids pair of Budgies , they never shut up from sun up till sun down .

My female is a lot quieter than the male, if he was like her you wouldn’t even know they were here

I understand the reasoning; however I do not really want to put $3400 into 2 pairs of conures. If I was going to outlay that amount of money on parrots it wouldn’t be on the Crimson-bellies.

Yeah, I guess it depends on what you really want to focus on. Nice birds, and quiet too.

Benson, that's great about the black masks. From memory you have a blue and a normal?? Mine are going Ok with mixed results. I would have been better off trying to get them to hold off till spring, when it's easier for me (more daylight) to not feel so rushed to feed them the extras they need/want when they have young, plus to do ringing and monitoring etc. I have a few young fledged, a couple of pairs on their second nest and a few young in the boxes.
The frustrating part with parrots is that they take sooo long in the nests. Finches are way better in this department.
Anyway if you have a successful season I'd be happy to swap a couple if you'd like to build up your collection. Are you going to ring yours? Contact me if your interested in joining the club. I'm not an ative member, but I enjoy reading the news letter and buy my rings through them.

The bigger problem for me is that I would never be spending a lot of money on birds – seen too many people loose expensive birds.

When a bird drops to $300 a pair it’s not so bad, however having a lot of money invested in a single or pair of birds is not for me.

I don’t mind if others have expensive birds it seems that they can better afford the risk.
