treating with colloidal silver, condy's crystals, coffee enemas, rescue remedy, rasberry cordial

Probably not smart enough to be throwing my 2 cents worth in here but here goes .... :(

In a bird that is so sick I cant see any of the above working however I have used Rescue Remedy for myself , my kids and my animals for years when stressful situations have occurred .

The Raspberry Cordial is used by so many bird keepers and was also given to soldiers in the WWars to ward of impending stomach bugs .

Ive seen the relief a coffee enema can give to a person in serious pain due to a terminal cancer .

When Condys was available Ive used it to cure fin rot on fancy Bettas with excellent results .

Surely its worth keeping an open mind on such things . People wouldn't stick to these things for years if they didn't get positive results . With the right application and if the ailment isn't too far gone then these old time remedies often are effective.

I do not know of anyone using Col Silver however I have had it prescribed by a naturopath and probably would have tried it if it wasn't so expensive.

This is just my opinion  so please dont go all crazy eyed at me :D

Hey don't knock Condys Crystals it makes the water in a local Motels fountain look good.
I am possibly the last person to comment on avian medication but to me this is a non event.
Why would you concider something that is libel to build up and stay in the birds body when there are several
modern day drugs available without any possible build up.
I know its a harsh comment but when you see a finch sick in your aviary(ex egg binding)it is generally bordering on the too late stage.
Birds mask illness as a safety thing, sick and the old are preyed on so try and look well and survive I guess.
Sorry to our two top class vets, you are still both much appreciated.

My understanding is that Colloidal silver is toxic - I would assume there is no safe level (seen any evidence that suggests it is actually safe for human consumption?) I definitely would never consume it and would not give it to birds.

Remember that Radium was wrongly considered to be harmless at one stage.

My Father in law has been taking it for about 10 years and he has had no issues, in fact he has not had a cold that has turned into an infection in 8 years. He currently is being watched by a doctor as they cannot understand why it has not made him ill.

I have used it on birds and had no probs

I have used it on my kids eye infection as a last resort and it worked

Finchman1 .....

As said I have never tried it but my googling found these which may be of some interest ...hope it helps.

These are 3 of the few unbiased reports on the subject , I didn't bother with those that were written by companies selling the product .

I'm neither for or against its use but am open to any information about it.

The other "alternatives " I mentioned I have or would use .

I worked in Pharmacy for awhile and my mum has worked in Pharmacy too and she was told the benefits of Colloidal Silver by a pharmacist and by a few customers. My only experience with it is when I got my belly button pierced when I was 16 :sweatdrop:. It refused to heal for 6 months, rinsed it with colloidal and within a day it had almost fully healed up properly. So in our house, we often use it to bathe wounds etc. Whether I'd use it on my birds I'm not sure. I'm leaning towards a no just because of how much speculation over it's benefits there are. They need to do some independent thorough testing on it thats for sure.

In bringing out an old thread, in todays Western Australian newspaper page 3, there is an article that staes that Melbourne scientists have developed an antibacterial fabric that has been shown to kill off both E coli and Staphylococcus withing 10 minutes of the pathogens making contact with the fabric. This fabric was said to utilise the antibacterial properties of SILVER! This material is known as Silver TCNQ.
