I think you will find and Nathan will agree that I have been firm with him on matters where birds welfare is at risk .
I totally agree that it is up to the adults to educate him . I myself have been hard on him but at the same time will always give credit to him where its due.

However it seems that everytime he posts something, controversy arises .
Yes he does push until the answer is acceptable to him which is something I have bought to his attention before .
Yes he is defiant and I have also mentioned this to him .
I see him the same way as other adults here and if you go through the posts you will see he has been corrected by me a few times.


However this time around I dont think he needed to be questioned over where he saw the Stubbles for sale .
Yes educate the kid, but no lets not rip into him everytime he makes a comment . The other juniors need not be jumping on him over where he saw them for sale .

Its wasn't nice and they have no proof to back up the assumption that they were not Stubbles ... I'm sorry but it annoyed me .

well sorry deb but as I understood it I have never seen a stubble for sale apart from on the web. When he said hundreds, japs being similar, it just seemed more likely to me. I was wrong. so be it.

hey deb - i never questioned your relationship with nathan or accused you of being soft on him, not that there is anything wrong with that. so (sincerely) please don't feel the need to defend yourself. more so i was simply saying - there is no need to feel that there is conflict, because i see none. i understand your concern - i despise forum bullying, especially when its adults unnecessarily attacking children, however even in this case i interpreted those questioning nathan as being polite and fair in their reasons for doubting his statements were accurate.

great - so back on the quail. i had no idea that:

a) japanese quail and the common quail were two different species or that both were present in aviculture here (i though the name was used loosely and interchangeably for the same bird) or that

b) native stubble quail was a related Coturnix species (i guess i thought they were related to button-quails)

I always thought (up till now) that stubble quail of which there are hundreds around here, were of the button quail genius, and I've always called Jap quail Coturnix, I now must change my ways. Thanks Toothless

Suppose to be Stubble around here too , Ive only seen Browns , gotta say the Browns are a nice quail .

Stubble used to be common on this side of the country way back when Dad had them. But then went out of style. Remember mistaking the first Jap quail I saw for stubbles because it had been some years, and the colour is so similar. But the Japs are bulkier. Folks then went into keeping and breeding the Japs. Didn't eat them but both Mum and my daughter really like the eggs boiled.
