This is from a country where animals are sold in department stores ie Walmart .
Birds have become disposable ..Lets hope we do not go down that road .
Worth watching

The suggestion that people should not breed birds is rather a stupid one if she genuinely believes we should do the best by the birds. Cause they tend to breed when they are happy and healthy.
And the suggestion that one should learn how birds should be kept so one can report people who don;t do the right thing. Well yes...........but surely the main reason for learning how to keep and look after birds is so you do the right thing? And the frequent use of the word many, without any statistics to back it up sounds a lot like she has no facts to confirm any of her wild speculation regarding quantities. And when she does use figures listen very carefully and do the maths, her figures contradict each other.

I could quibble with some points, the emotive tone and the general anti-birdkeeping sentiment, but I generally agree with most of this video.
I love parrots, I could look at them all day, but I'll never own one. I guess I'm lucky that where I live I can see and even interact with wild lorikeets and cockatoos.
I choose not to have them as pets because, frankly, their high intelligence and emotional needs mean I can't give them what they require to be happy. Most people can't. Consider the huge problems of self mutilation, feather plucking and habitual screaming from frustrated birds who have been driven insane by their confinement, loneliness and boredom.
Finches, being a lot simpler creatures, are another story.

Don't be fooled into thinking that we are that different.
Too many parrots are bred in suspended aviaries that are way too small, with nothing more than a perch at each end and a nest box. No enrichment, no stimulation and no escape from aggressive partners.
Many pet parrots are being treated as child substitutes- and yes I have seen the parrot nappy on birds here in Australia too.
And parrot rescue centres where unwanted parrots are dumped are becoming increasingly full.
If the animal libbers wanted to get stuck into us, they would have plenty of ammunition to paint us in a bad light to the public.
So let's make sure we all raise our standards and not give them the opportunity to brainwash the general public.
Let's highlight the good things we do and the joy of our hobby through bird sales and pet expos.

Watched a program on Foxel last night "Animal Emergency" Lady on there had a cockatoo called Michael, she had him for 50 years, the lady herself was either in her 80's or getting close. The bird was at the vets for the first time in 50 years. Michael is her only family and she was concerned what would happen to him if anything happened to her. She found a guy at a bird life park she visited on a day trip. Michael will spend the rest of his days with one of the keepers when his present owner is unable to keep him. Michael gets taken on a regular basis to form a bond with the keeper so that the change wont be too hard on him.
So not everyone is the same as those depicted in the video.

I didnt even look at it but if it is the typical PETA rubbish I'm not suprised by the responses.....they always show the worst and I'm sure that you could find the exact same in Australia if you looked, but you see this in every species/animal type and I think the good far outweighs the cases of cruelty out there. Cruelty exists in birds, dogs cats rats etc etc...but that doesnt mean that responsible and ethical treatment doesnt exist.
