Your lucky Trilobite that you have a family run hardware store ...Here its Bunnings or Mitre 10 and I think that it is the same for any major centre .

I honestly cant remember the last time I shopped at Bunnnings, becuae they are gennerally very over priced, service is well not there, and if you can get someone to talk to you they usually scratch thier head and say try isle X in an attempt to get you away from them. I support my local hardware store and Ican honestly say they are 98% o fthe time cheaper then the bog ripoff store. When we built our aviary last year a role of mesh at the big rip off was $400, compared to $130 at the local farmers co-op. By all means shop at bunning, kmart, coles woolies and big w, but shop around for the cost of a few phonbe calls you can save thousands. Having said that I just shop at my local family onwed hardware and not once have I been disapointed with their service so if anyone is in the Burpengary Narangba area go and visitthe boys Simon and Justin, Dad Ron and store hands like Bryan at Millers Hardware - you wont go unnoticed.
Found the same at our local Home Hardware as well.....Bought a mower with bigger motor and better quality all round and over $100 cheaper then that rude bunch  And these poor guys just came through Bundys floods so I will support them no end now

My local one must be the exception but the staff at Bunnings here are very courteous & helpful. They are dear on non-special items but service great.

I don't disagree with you. That sort of behaviour is unacceptable and certainly not customer focused. Perhaps a formal complaint/grievance to the store management may get some element of notice, however.... I can't rule Bunnings out completely, because I do enjoy browsing through the aisles, and do occasionally pick up the odd bit of merchandise, whether I actually need it or not is another thing.

More good things to say about our loal Bunnings than bad. But then I know a lot of the staff and used to do their customer quality control checking. :D And we don;t have options for a lot of what they stock.

Speaking of kmart and such, I imagine you have all seen the 'self serve' checkouts? We refuse to use them because at the end of the day it is just another way for them to cut staffing costs - putting people out of a job. As for Bunnings... my other half used to work for them and was one of the few people there that had some idea of what they are selling. And of course was treated like crap. I think that the people that would have enough knowledge about various industries to be able to actually help customers would rather work somewhere where they are appreciated, given an option. So majority of staff working in such a place are oblivious or just have no other options.

The thing is it is just plain old fashioned service....I was quite happy to move as they asked and told me they have closed the register...but to reopen it as I moved and not even ask me to come through, well I just don't get it??? It was lined up behind me...I move and they go through....WTF? who teaches these people and they were not young either!!...Well that's my winge and I go elsewhere now anyways
