E Orix,
Just a thought and don't know if they are legal but have seen documentaries and heard of people using "mist nets" to catch small birds for research and also for the bird trade in years gone by. Maybe someone may know where to source one or may have one "on hand". May make things easier if set up near the avairy. I suspect it would be fairly labour intensive if you have a fair bit of local birds around the avairy (sparrows etc). Just a thought. Good luck.

So dreadfully sorry to hear your bad news. And sincerely hope you are able to escort some more of those that survived back to safety in the avairy.

Absolutely gut wrenching, So sorry to hear that mate. I have seen wire funnels in the roof of aviaries to let in escapes. The only problem is the sparrows would also get in. Unless you wired of an area to sort out what is to go out again. As already said I wish I was closer to help recover some of the birds.

I thought an update on what I have trapped.
Saint Helena Waxbills 7
Cordons 14
Yellow Headed Stars 4
The male Red Crested Finch and a young one from their first clutch
Not many but at least a few. There are very little left trying to get in,maybe later if they get sick of scrouging for food.
A male Cuban Finch is driving me crazy,I even have his mate as a call bird but he seems to enjoy the outdoors too much.
I am catching Sparrows at a rate in excess of 3 to 1,for some reason this trap fools them.
I am using a 10 compartment trap that Les Milton used to make. They are deadly if the bird enters and I doubt if I have ever injured a bird in it.
By the way thanks for all your best wishes.

Glad to hear you are catching some of them. Hopefully a few more will be caught over the next few days.
