Not the best start here. Of my three pairs, i just pulled 5 clear eggs out of one nest, the male of another pair is building nests but the hen isn't interested and the third pair don't know what the nest box is for

Moved house and aviary = birds go mad, though they are having small first clutches mostly 2's or 3's and one pair with 10 eggs which started hatching on Valentines day (2/10 so far).
I've had two Gould fledge this week, two almost ready to leave the nest, 2 getting their pin's, 3 normal black heads (I hope) in pin feather stage and waiting on the 10 egg clutch to see how many make it. So 9 + 2 new borns.
I close banded for the first time too! Well except the clutch of 3 normals who was a surprise and outgrew close banding before I got to see them.

Great news Flavio,

Yesterday my first nest fledged....only 2 young but it is the SFYB X YB that I feel may be producing the blue heads.....also another 4 nests with about 15 young and a further 5 nests with fertile eggs....however i stuffed up with one of the Blue cocks...I allowed 3 hens to stay with 2 cocks....the Blue cock paired up with a YB...but then decided he liked the spare BH hen better....and abandoned the YB hen...she was doing OK until the chicks hatched then she abandoned the nest to....so now I have put in another cock to ensure 3 pairs....the Blue has been building a nest with one of the BH hens so hopefully a nest will come soon...

So doing much better than last year...so far....except for a split Blue hen that just sits on the perch looking depressed....she is in ripe breeding condition....this is the second year she has done this...so I think i bought a dud (probably an old hen)....so it might be off to the retirement farm for her pretty soon.

Cheers, Paul

Alot of eggs in first round with hardly a bird sitting. 3 pair with first round fertile eggs total 14 with 4 of them hatched today. Rest of pairs that did not sit have gone back and most are laying and sitting this time. Clutches of 5-9 eggs so far in each round.

Hi Flavio,

It's interesting that this SFYB x YB hen producing these blue heads have only ever raised nests of 2....last year 4 young, but only 1 survived through to the molt...this year the first nest again only had 2 chicks....yet there were 4 fertile eggs....so I don't know why the other 2 didn't hatch.....and funnily enough all birds have been SFYB's....so they are only producing cocks....too much of a coninsidence that out of 6 birds all have been SFYB's.....I'm curious to see what the second round will produce....cheers Paul
