Hi All Well that opened a can of worms Thanks for the comments, if nothing is done with these people that cross breed by the government, aviculture is going to suffer in the future. I know it occurs in SA, and is frowned upon by the authorities and it usually occurs with galahs, correllas and sulfers. I hope the NSW government and all states can stop this practise of cross breeding OF ALL AUSTRALIAN BIRDS wether on licence or not. Let see what happens from here

Probably not such a bad idea. It would stop defective thinking being passed on to the next generation. ( I meant the two species of birds)

Yes however complaining isnt acting .
There has to be a way to get the attention of the powers that be and ban this once and for all .

Yes banning it creates a black market but at least it will knock a few of the breeders on their bums .

Petiton ??? How does one get an online or hard copy petition into action ?

Whilst I'm sure most aviculturists (including myself) frown on intentional breeding of hybrids, I think it would be potentially dangerous for government to intervene with regulations or legislation in this area. This would represent a significant increase in the regulation of aviculture which I fear would be impossible to administer and ensure compliance of anyway, but would also inadvertently over-regulate our hobby further. Is this what we really want? The government authorities which would be responsible for any such regulation already lack sufficient "bird brains" to competently administer existing regulations, so what hope would they have for more stringent controls of what occurs in people's aviaries? If there weren't a sufficient number of people who are attracted to hybrids there would be no market for them in the first place. I resent the notion that extra government regulations and laws should be thrust on us all in the pointless hope of curing undesirable human activity (usually by a minority). Most new laws and regulations are originally put forward for admirable purposes but usually they end up over-complicating life for the compliant majority for little or none of the intended beneficial effect. I for one already have far too much government interference in my life, please don't lobby for more.

We need to let new starters know it is not the right thing to do.Also frown upon those who should know better.Bringing it up here as a thread is a start to discuss this subject and to let people know its not the right thing to do.
The face book page misso brought up there was only myself and him that argued its not right.I am sure I made no friends with the few who thought it was ok or are actually doing it.But that's life I have my opinion on it they have theirs.

I've come accross a few who just don't get it. I think they're actually ignorant of what it is they're doing rather than being just in it for the money. I've had blokes buying finches from me who want to try to cross breed different species. They really don't understand the difference between species and breeds. In their little world breeding a double bar with a star is just the same as breeding a kelpie with a collie.

Absolutely not. As you imply Tiaris, governments everywhere can make a mess of even the simplest regulations. Best to keep government nutters as far away from aviculture as we can. I'd suggest education and codes of practice/conduct through clubs is the way to go.

Hmmm yes good point about the Govt however kinda makes a joke of paying for a license to protect these birds hey ?

Anyhoo yes educate them .

And Ive had the odd tanty and left one or two (maybe more )parrot pages ( facebook ) for having an opinion on the subject , funny thing is I get a dozen messages after wards saying they agree with me ...Sheesh even on anonomous facebook pages people wont stand up for theie beliefs ..we really are doomed but not as much as our beautiful native parrots .

So Im going to stay positive and hope the people handling the emails Ive sent get back to me with some good news ...
