Native. Also native to many other countries from Africa to India SE Asia New Guinea. Busy little things aren't they.

Depending on how common (in the wild) they used to be here or in other places, they might have similar origins to say blue faced parrot finches in that they are a native species and some of our aviary stock may have originated from Australia but a lot of it may have come from overseas but that is only a theory.

I thought the African one was a separate but similar species, the African blue quail... I don't know, I'm all confused now

Yes have seen them around Noosa country area...mine called them out of the grasses....
