Many people had no idea of genetics in the early days so mutations were not established as easily as they are today. That is why the most effective way to establish a mutation is to breed back to the parent of the opposite sex. While breeding the sibs to complete outcrosses. Then outcross the original bird completely, while crossing the cousins from the 1st years breeding.
