Just install the new version right over the top. You won't (or at least shouldn't - that's why we're testing!) lose any data.

Hello Shane.
My questionis about adding photos.
I found that the first two I just double-clicked and they appeared in the correct frame.
However, after that I couldn't add any more photos. Could there be a memory limit for such things?
I love this programme! It's just involved enough to give me good data but not too complicated!
Cheers
Tom

Not quite sure what would cause that. Are you definitely choosing an image file (.png, .jpg or .gif) and clicking "Update Bird" after adding it?

Could you perhaps email me on of the photos that could not be attached? ([email protected])
I love this programme!
Thank you :)

Shane

I have been added a few canary's by variety and cage (aviary) numbers. It appears very straight forward.

I will be interested in adding the parents and grandparents and seeing how the families come out, as I try to line breed aunty to nephew, uncle to niece and grandparent to grandchild. I will update some more information on the weekend, and see how the families come out

I chose one random family of Gouldians which consists of 7 birds to enter into the database as a trial.
Hoping to see a multi generational pedigree of bird No. 334.

Bird with my number of 334
Her parents are 255 (C) and 241 (H)

Parents for 241 are
179 (C) and 154 (H)

Parents for 154 are
78 (C) and 117 (H)

All these birds have been entered into the database in random order.

When I try to print a genealogy chart for bird 334 I can only see a one generation pedigree and it doesn't refer to the number I have given the parents at all.
At first I thought it was showing the number the bird was allocated by the system on entering that particular bird. But each parent is numbered the same?

When I look at the genealogy for my bird No. 334 I can see this bird has been given the ID 9 by the system. I can also seen the sex, aviary, year, description, my ID band number and band colour, all these details are correct.
But for the Sire and the hen the ID number is ID8 which doesn't match with the numbers I have for the birds. They should read 255 and 241

Might be my input error... but I will be interested to see how Canary gets on after he has added a family or two.

Only other mentions (and I would be really nit picking here :shifty: ...hope this is ok) would be some very fine tuning such as some of the input boxes are covering the wording saying what the boxes are for and a spelling mistake. (Aviary - Avairy)

It will always use the number assigned by AviManage, because it's the only number that can be trusted to be unique and accurate.

If you're feeling particularly adventurous, could you go to C:\Users\{your_name}\AppData\Roaming\AviManage and send me the "mydata" folder in a zip file?

To even further refine the output of complex genealogy, as suggested in my last post, maybe there could be a hierarchy of the significance of relationships, and only list the most significant. For example, where a single bird is technically the mother, cousin, second cousin and half sibling of the subject bird - listed many times over in the simple virtual set-up I have created (offspring from a father and daughter pairing) - I really only need to know that it is the bird's mother. Maybe others with more experience in breeding birds will have a more informed opinion of this than me. But I still think it is misleading, confusing and unnecessary to list multiple repeats of the same relationship to any one bird - in the set-up I have mentioned above it at first appears that the bird is related to 33 other birds (though there are only four other birds entered), but closer inspection reveals that 26 of the relationships listed are to the same other bird, and 18 of those are "second cousin".

Good idea. I will prioritize parent and full sibling relationships and not show duplicates in the next build.

There's going to be a little delay before I can release another version, unfortunately. This weekend is set aside for aviary building and I'm also bogged down with law homework. (I only have to study law for a semester and I now fully understand why law students are so psychotic)

Sounds good, Shane.
And have fun with aviary building - very therapeutic I think - and law homework - sounds less exciting.

Updated!
when browsing to choose a bird as the parent, could you include the ID column in the table that appears?
Done.
a spelling mistake. (Aviary - Avairy)
Fixed.

Sort of fixed. Duplicates are now ignored, with parental relationship given listing priority. Unfortunately the 'cousin' relationship is considered to be more significant than 'sibling' because of really hard-to-explain design flaw.

Can you upload a screenshot? Text size and shape can differ between two computers so I don't know which labels are ill-fitting without seeing AviManage running on your computer.
