Oveseas perceptions of Aussie Aviculture

I'm interested in any Aussie finch.And would consider putting an aviary aside for a rare foreign.May take a bit to convert me to the other side though A thing to work out really as mentioned would be legitimate endangered birds,And affordable to those interested, As say $2000 to $5000 a pr would limit a few interested no doubt. As whats not so common here maybe common in say W.A.

Maybe what we need is a pre-emptive strike.
1.....Baring in mind this is the AUSSIE Finch Forum.
2.....The cost of the extremely endangered birds.


My question is........
Is there an Australian Finch that without some early intervention could possibly become endangered?

Diamond Firetails
Parson Finches (already need saving)

Chestnuts are not to common here in Vic but I believe are abundant in QLD as you see them in the markets up there.
Diamonds seem to be going OK in Vic Although I don't have much luck with them.
I agree with the Parsons and Diggles.You do see the odd one at sales as no one will buy them unless they are cheap.I currently dont have them but am going to get some more.
Crimsons not to common here as the price reflects $250 a pr but i think they are common in QLD ?

Is there already a group established doing this?
Do the foreigns need more help then the Aussies?

As afore mentioned, the QFS, FSA, CFC etc. are doing it, and the foreign species certainly do need help, if we want to maintain breeding stocks.

like, I said, the price and abundance of aussie birds varies on their home range, (i.e. chestnuts uncommon in Vic, SA, NSW, and common in QLD, NT)

I believe the white rumped parson is in need of saving more, as diggles is allegedly pushing the parson out of it's home range already.

Well at least you guys have got some critical mass of breeders that have the knowlege and resources to maintain many species. I don't seem to be able to get any interest in the Philipines to either breed what's here or cooperate to import. Soon all that will be left will be muddy mess of Gouldians and Zebs. I hope Aussies have the brains to realize what a good wicket they're on and cooperate.

As this seems to have risen from the dead in another topic I will add another thought here.

With regard to the freight, maybe if we could get this off the ground (sorry about the pun ;) ) maybe we could talk one of the airlines to subsidize the the flight of a few birds now and then.

agreed aussie finches first , agreed $$$$ is a big factor and agreed it would need an airline to back it all to make it work ( freight costs ) PLUS its no use breeding a bird that no one else wants to keep , need to be able to sell birds off to others interested in the breed and to recoup $$$$ for fresh bloodlines.
