I use Virkon S for sprouting seed, as others have said, its just about fool proof. As i only have 9 birds at the moment, i just do it on a mini scale using a couple of tupperware containers and freeze it when it starts to bud. I wouldn't have even used half of a 50g packet in the last 12 months.

Think with my luck I'd best go for the for foolproof option. For those in Perth have just done some more research and discovered that a company called Biojohn (13 Camden St Belmont) usually stock Virkon S in all sizes and they're open on Saturday mornings. Their 50gm sachets are $9.90. As luck would have it though they don't have any in stock today. I'll try again on Monday and failing that will order over the internet. Thought it might be useful info for others as they're also just down the road from Birdworld if you were out that way.

Microshield 5
Is there any data about it. Is it a sanitiser suitable for food, is it also suitable to be ingested by small bodied animals like birds.

According to the chemist I spoke to in very small concentrations and if rinsed thoroughly it shouldnt harm the birds ( shouldnt , very loaded word ) however the agent that makes it suds could make the birds unwell .

Microsheild 5 's only ingredient is Chlohexadine Glouconate, the same ingredient used by Vetafarm (& every other company that produce a water 'cleanser') in Aviclens.
