The reason for the rush is that generally good quality Finches are in short supply hence the urgency.
The Canberra Sale was a rather small one(enjoyable though) but at large sales it is like a gold rush.
I was surprised how many Cordons were for sale and @ $60 a pair under normal selling price.
At Ballarat pairs were selling for $80 and on person was selling single hens for $70
At Ballarat we sold over 100 birds in under an hour.
Most sellers has a chance to have a quick look while setting up but no chance once the doors open.
Once you have been to a couple of sales you quickly learn,be early and ready when the doors open.
If you miss out on a particular specie ask the seller if he is breeding them, if so try and set up a contact to buy direct

trick is carry a HUGE box so everyone has to get out of the way!
or just be small, like me with a small box so you can get in anywhere :P

Orix, $60 is the usual price for cordons around here, used to be $40 or $50 in 2009. I was surprised at the cheapness of O/B's though, $40 per pair!!! usually around $60 - $80/pp

as for Diane's post, that's very true  I have seen actually a few fights break out (not physical ones) about people bumping into other people with carry boxes.

Very proud we only had 1 escaped bird that day, a new record. AND we got it back!! shame the catcher doesn't get to keep the bird, otherwise a friend of mine would be going home one crimson finch heavier!

that would be a good score.. Alway's thought Crimsons might be a great bird to try... :geek: I think the catcher should demand ownership.. Unless it's my bird that got away.... :)
