And already the number of Free Cat adds round the shopping centres has doubled. I just hope there is not a mass dumping of cats into the bush the day before the law comes in. It is a good idea, but not every old aged pensioner with 1 sterilised cat over 10 years of age will comply. And as for those with a house full of unsterilised.

I guess the main problem is that the rangers etc don't actually know who already has cats so it will be rather difficult to control!

I mean, with dogs, they can look over your fence and see dogs that are potentially not registered, but cats not necessarily!

We always offer free microchip with sterilisation for at least one term of the year. Maybe for term 4 we should do free microchipping for cat sterilisations being that the new law comes in during that term! lol

What people should do and what people do do are 2 totally different things .
The laws for dogs have been around long enough for people to know what needs to be done but do they do it ?

This has already been going on for decades, Almost too late for many aussie natives. Cage,register,de-sex them or ban them outright !!!!!!!!!!!!! better still,just dont own one.Yep i still invest too much time trying to keep the sh--t things out of home and my work place.

I know of some housing estates over here (usually ones that back onto bushland etc) wont even allow you to keep cats, even if they are completely indoors!
So I think banning is becoming more of a possibility!!

I just wish all people could be as good as me - all 4 cats are desexed, chipped, wear tags and will be registered when that comes in!! ;D

I have been told my council has a no cat policy near a nature reserve, does that mean they are fair game if the are caught on my property that backs on to one... The issue of cats will rage on for years and will be very hard to police, they need to have a cat amnesty for legitament owners to fess up to having a cat , or have it caught and if chipped delt with accordingly...

There will always be the people that do the right thing and other that wont.....

Compulsory de sexing and microchipping and registration and cat curfews have been in place in Vic for a few years, but even when the councils are informed of people with unregistered undesexed cats (ie my neighbour) they do nothing, they go and enquire, the cats are chased away (nah not mine) and nothing happens....mind you when you have birds in an avairy and they have restrictions on numbers they will tell you to get rid of them. Cats are too easy to deny that they are yours, and these people just get more if their cats do end up trapped and sent to council....sad really for the cats but some people will never change. And cats constantly on heat or pregnant or feeding kittens in the shed and driving the dogs mad all night are much more disturbing than a few extra birds!
