Of course this is a tried and proven method that has been done since Adam was a boy.

Europeans are doing this method of increasing the daylight hours so they can get their young on the perch early and in top conditions for the
many shows and exhibitions they enter their birds in.
In Europe shows start as early as September and finish with the National and World shows in January.

Just an update on the school of July 2013.The first batch of youngsters(8) with 2 older birds.
Also have 2 nests with young and 2 with eggs, both 2nd clutches.

I ended up fledging 22 young with only 2 deaths (good feeders the Fife canary's)they are now outside in a flight aviary
for the summer months.That didn't stop them with 1 pair with 2 chicks and 2 pair on eggs.With all the cocks and hens
in together there is not much fighting,trouble is I don't know which cock has serviced which hen,oh well they are all Fifes.

I just started pairing mine on 7th October, which is a late start this year after a holiday.

Each to their own, and your results show that they were ready to breed early or you would not have the chicks.

I would be interested to know when the chicks start moulting, if you would let me know. Mine usually moult from January through to March. Do yours moult earlier being early bred?

I'll keep you posted as I don't know because this is the first time I have put them down early.
