First egg today out of my white hen.
5 other hens now have nests finished, and the other 3 that don't even look interested.
I have also got another buff hen for my spare white cock. If she starts nesting soon I will probably put the eggs from one of my good pairs under her and let the good pair nest again.
Should hear the sound of chicks in a few weeks.

Well done Canary
Don't the babies grow fast after they hatch,my baby has doubled in size very quickly.

Harvey
They sure do grow fast, and especially if there is one in the nest. 3 weeks and they are out of the nest. How is your chick going?
I now have 5 hens laying, and will set them together, so that I can then swap chicks under hens if I need to even them out.

Good to hear that everything is going well.
Be careful that you don't cover the cage too early in the day, so that the parents keep feeding the chick in daylight hours, and don't think it is night.
You will be surprised how the hen will keep the chick warm when it is cold.

My young hen from last year laid 5 eggs but has only hatched one little dark chick. She and Dad are both greens. Other hens nest is in pieces, don't know who did that.

Very good Harvey, bet your stoked about the baby looking good and healthy. At the moment I have about 16 young canaries all pinkies with some eggs still to hatch. Just can't seem to get to two nests to see what's in them as my stars have built a nest just under one and the other is in the middle of brush.

Now have 6 hens set on eggs with a further 2 still laying. One hen hasn't even made a nest yet, so I have put a different cock in to see if that gets her interested.
The 10th hen that I was keeping as a spare, to maybe put some other eggs under has now started whistling its head off, so is obviously not a hen.
Expecting plenty of chicks in 2 weeks.
