I never renewed my member ship ever since the old committee guard bowed out, Co Founder and Foundation President R.J. Murray would not only be turning in his Urn, he would be spinning in his Urn 255 kph if he was told the the state his beloved Avicultural Society is in, as to the Gang of Four sticking out their necks, well done lads but, you are whipping a dead horse, this current Mob is either unwilling, unable or incabable of laying straight in bed, harsh words? yes but,for he Avicultural Society to have a Soul and serve a meaningful purpose as a Society and to its Subscibers,a number of committee members have to pull their finger out of their Khyber Pass and apply themselfs and do what needs to be done to improve and restore faith and confidence to attract and keep new members. Can any one found out how many paid up members are currently on their books?

I am very disappointed with what has happened.
The committee member who started pointing the finger sounds like he is very ill-suited for the position. If people are complaining then maybe there is a real problem that needs addressing.
Part of being a good committee is to listen to your membership. You won't always be able to satisfy everyone but you should take their opinions on board.
I still think it is worth supporting Paul and helping him to find a new venue.
At the end of the day, if you really want to change what's happening at the ASA, please, PLEASE, nominate for a committee position at the upcoming elections.
The best way to force change is to do so from the inside. Don't let the current committee's apathy ruin what you believe in.

Hi All,
I have started enquiries on a hall that is approxmately 800 sqm...5 minutes off the Western Ring Road and has easy access and great parking facilities. They also provide tressels....I now need to find out cost, availability and what work the ASA will need to do on the day, but at this stage it is sounding promising.
If this location works out I will provide the details to the ASA and let everyone on the forum know their response.
As far as joining the Committee, I personally have too many things on the go at the moment with running 2 businesses, school, family and birds...but it may be something I would look at in the future.
I'll keep you posted on my enquiries about this hall I have identified.
Cheers
Paul

Hi Natambo,
Sorry I don't know the exact measurements of the La Trobe site. I think ColoredFeathers was going to find out the measurements of the Mornington site (not that we want a venue that big) ....but that will help put things into perspective.
Cheers

If the committee people reacted like that I am very sad and it looks like the Society is ready to die.
This was not the approach taken by the old people of the past.
I really question those committee peoples ability to be called a committee person.
It is totally absurd not to welcome members willing to stand up and be counted.
Having been President of 3 Avian clubs all were or became successful because of the members becoming involved
and being used on sub committees.
This is not just the way bird clubs should be run but most other clubs as well.
I am on the Board of several Companies and a Foundation All members have port folios and if required co'opt people
onto sub committees. If this is so what is stopping AA I hope not their ego's
To those in there trying to get improvement,it is not easy but the ground swell will grow.

Hi All,
The size of the Mornington Sale site is 4700 sqm...obviously we will not find a site that big closer in to town. Mr Tino and I have identified 2 sites which we are making enquiries. One is the size of 3 basketball courts. Can anyone tell me the size of a standard basketball court. Either way it is 3 times the size of the La Trobe site with easy parking all around the building.
The other site is 900 sqm also with plenty of parking around the building.
We will keep you posted.
Cheers

Paul, my daughter runs events at Latrobe. She doesn't have exact sizes but (based on table layout) believes it to be around 20m x 40m ie about 800sqm. That may make La Trobe bigger than you think...
