Sounds like he spends a lot of time lurking around that nest Mick :D :D

But I'd like to post a little warning here to new Finch Breeders about peeking inside nests :)

Bengalese Mannikins and Zeb's are pretty tolerant of nest inspection but MOST Finches are NOT, in extreme cases, some will desert the nest if you even go too close to it  . In some cases, If they don't actually desert the nest and build another they will usually lay more eggs or if there are young chicks in the nest, they will decorate the aviary floor with them :(

If you feel there is a problem inside the nest and you must inspect it, NEVER USE YOU FINGERS, as you will leave your scent in the entrance. The method I use and recommend, is a small straight stick, to move aside any grass etc, and a small torch to see inside, I have used this method quite successfully over the years whenever inspection was needed :D

Cheers Tony :)

Hey Tony I don't peek all the time cause my bengalese are in a little aviary just onside my backyard so I can see inside the nest though my window the only time when I look right in the nest is when I am changing there food/water or cleaning the floor of the aviary

Thanks
Steven

It was just a little tease Steven :) The post was not specifically aimed at you and I appologise if you thought it was :) :) It was meant to inform all the new breeders that may read it ;) There are a lot of finches that wont tolerate nest checking.

I wish I could have an aviary near a window like yours so I could watch the finches all the time, good luck with the hatching today :D

Cheers Tony
