Hi All,
I am looking to breed gouldians and am wondering what is the best way to supplement the basic seed diet without seeding grasses. There are so many soft food mixes available. Just interested in what breeders consider are the best to use.

I cannot understand why you do not want to use seeding grass? Please explain? All you have to do is take the seed heads off the weeds in your backyard. What could be easier? And do add cuttlefish bone to the diet. Gouldians are very avid consumers of cuttlefish bone.

I like mineral energies complete soft food for finches and parrots .
Just a tip if it smells like custard powder thats because it has it in the mix as a filler ....not what I want to be paying for .
Mike Fiddlers soft food is good I hear .
Also Passwells have a good reputation .
Hope this helps and welcome to the forum

Welcome to the forum.
I use Mike Fidler's softfood and sprouted seed. I prepare it pretty much the way he does (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Xdo4XkExes), but I just sprout whatever seed I already have. I do a heap at once (enough for a few months) and keep it in the freezer. His softfood seems pretty pricey compared to others, but 1kg goes a long way. All my finches also get a range of fruit/veges and seeding grasses.
