Cock is RHPBGB (seller sold him as split yellow) ((yes I know there is no such thing but didn't at the time)) hen is YHPBGB
chicks are RHPBGB and YHPBGB hens and cocks. But some of the hens have a white chin spot. And one of those daughter/hens is the hen in the pair with the same question elsewhere on the forum.

When he said split to yellow he most likely meant split to Australian yellow given the fact that the offspring in hens have white chin spots.

Aus yellow splits often have a white spot in bib or on head, so yes it can be split for yellow. It is also split for yellow head, which could also be what the seller meant (in which case if he didn't know his bird is split for Aus yellow, now you don't know which parent is split coz it could be either!)

The seller said it was split for yellow in a way that indicated YB. So pretty sure he didnot mean head colour. And the hen is one of Finchers, so I think he would not have accidently sold a split Aussie yellow hen. Ah the trouble is when you ask about YB everyone assumes European and tells you your bird can;t be split YB it is either SF or DF. Thank You, that helps considerably.

See what happened with their white spot daughter and her mate on the other thread with the same title.

FB, part of the problem / confusion is your own usage of terms. Yellow Back is normally used only to refer to European Yellow, the sex linked form. Yellow, in common usage, has now generally disappeared in favour of Aus Yellow to refer to the recessive form. There are more changes to bird colour than just the yellow back for Aus yellow, including the white only bib (whereas EY can have purple bibs and all of mine do). In your mind use the different terms for different forms and you'll generate, and have yourself, less confusion.

As I have become aware that these are probably mixed Euro/yellow x Aust/yellow that is how I am refering to them as I think of them. But getting it sorted is taking time, and when you do not know you can only refer to them by what they visually are. Which is what I have been doing. What is the correct way to write the cock bird this thread started with?

FB he's a normal split Aus yellow.
Visually the yellows are different normally too, have a look at the Belgian website photos, he has some really good examples

Don't forget that Aus yellow cannot have a purple breast. The only "tricky" birds are white breasted ones.

That is what has happened here. Saw a yellow Gouldian, liked the look of it. Went to someone who advertised yellow Gouldians in the Quokka and bought a yellow Gouldian. The cock in the other post. Later on went back and bought 3 more birds. A yellow cock, a split yellow cock (this guy here) and a yellow hen. At no time was the existance of 2 types of yellows mentioned or any indication that these may be different. And not having been into mutation Gouldians had not read about.
Mum who made these purchases kept the original cock. Who looking at the pics should be an Aussie yellow because he was YHWBYB and very bright and clear. She later kept the split cock (apparently also Aussie yellow because he has produced spottted children) And gave me the YHPBYB who is apparently from the pics a Euro yellow, even though the chicks his hen produced are normal and hens. (suspect the normal YHPBGB cock in the avairy of straying) The hen died soon after purchase.
Is it any wonder we have been very confused. Now the kind and experienced people on this forum have started to guide us, we hope to sort out what we have.
