Mum is a blacked eyed yellow and dad is a yellow faced blue, mum's the one with all the nice genetics you just can't see them.cookey wrote:Nice Maz. We're the parents coloured similarly?

From that photo you seem to have left opaline off the list - in which case she got it from Dad.maz wrote:yellow faced blue dominant pied spangled (what a mouthful lol)bluebutterfly213 wrote:Very pretty. The photo is definately of a Yellowfaced Opaline Spangle Pied. Opaline is sex linked as Natambo said, so come from the opposite sex parent. Is Dad Opaline as I am not 100% sure that is a hen? And as Maz said Mum must be a Black eyed yellow Spangle pied. Though if Dad has even one yellow feather he could be pied and being Yellowfaced it could be hidden by the Yellow. Sorry but budgie genetics is a whole new ball game as the yanks would say.

Yeah I'm not convinced on the opaline, someone else said that too me but dad definitely isn't (and neither of my yellow faces are so it can't be a different dad), unless dad's a split opaline (I'm still learning all the genetics but definitely getting there lol)

I am convinced of the opaline, there should be even lines from cap to wing tips, there aren't, even on that angle you can see the opaline effect on the top of the head and the back of the neck. Dad only needs to be split opaline to produce opaline daughters because opaline is sex linked recessive. If it turns out to be male (although I reckon it's a hen based on white ring around nostrils) then it means dad is split and mum is hiding it in the double spangle (also a possibility).maz wrote:Yeah I'm not convinced on the opaline, someone else said that too me but dad definitely isn't (and neither of my yellow faces are so it can't be a different dad), unless dad's a split opaline (I'm still learning all the genetics but definitely getting there lol)
See this pic from here http://www.budgieplace.com/colorsguide.html#opaline

The reason I wasn't convinced on the opaline was that most of the info and pics I see of spangled are similar to this http://www.budgieplace.com/gen_spangle.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , and the info I've read says that opaline will make spangled darker which this one isn't particularly.....I'm still learning though so I'm happy for the input
