Hi,

I have 3 pairs of red Faced Parrot Finchs and non of them started breeding.
They are together since Ouctober and no egss at teh moment.
The males start working on their nest but thats all.
However today i change the female in one couple and what i saw was incredible: this pied male i have start mating for about half an our with this new female, that i changed.
Is this behavior normal??

Best Regards

I don;t have parrott finches. But my guess is you either had 2 cocks together before. Or the other hen was not in condition and this one is. And obviously they think each other are definately a 9 or 10 on the attractiveness scale.

Hello,

they are 2 hens for shore. Both of them were almost bald because of their males tryed to mate.
I took all females out and i am going to leave the males alone for some time to see what is going to happen when i get all of them together.

As I said I don't have Parrott finches. But I think I would put the pied and the hen he fell in lust with into their own breeding cage/avairy and let them go for it.

Finchbreeder, that´s exatly what i have done.
But this new hen is a pied seagreen and the male is a pied normal and have been told to me that crossing this mutation is not so good for the chicks.
is this true??

To the behaviour of the finches when you moved, I'd say in my experience that is normal. The dominant cock bird will assert his claim on a new hen immediately. The poor girls never know what hits them.
I usually try keep new birds seperated from the cocks until they are ready to breed because of this. They get chased relentlessly for quite some time before they submit to the persistent cock.

Hopefully they settle down for you.

As to the crossing. I don't know if it would be bad for the offspring, I just think its difficult to tell if you have splits if you don't sex them.
Someone in the past posted this info which I found really helpful:

normal cock x normal hen = 50% normal cock & 50% normal hen.
normal cock x sea green hen = 50% split cock & 50% normal hen.
split cock x normal hen = 25% split cock, 25% normal cock, 25% sea green hen & 25% normal hen.
split cock x sea green hen = 25% sea green cock, 25% split cock, 25% sea green hen & 25% normal hen.
sea green cock x normal hen = 50% split cock & 50% sea green hen.
sea green cock x sea green hen = 50% sea green cock & 50% sea green hen
