Best mate for YB female?

Hi everyone, just wondering who would be the best mate for a YH PB YB hen? Her parents were a dilute (or SF YB) male and a normal hen. Have looked into the genetic forecaster and it seems that a dilute or a YB male would be best, but I am not sure between those two options. She will be kept in an aviary with two other pairs of YH. Thanks.

I am guessing if you want YB then you should put her with a DFYB because if you put her with a SFYB you can end up with normal females still?

She is more hubby's than mine (I am not that fussed with her colour) so I will put that to him. I guess DF YB would give more interesting variety than SF YB.

More variety with the Dilute than the DF. I would go Dilute its still going to throw Greens and Yellows.

Yes, I got myself muddled...
I would be with you Amca, but hubby just said he would prefer YB so will need to source a DF YB.

DFYB + YB hen is a lethal gene, less chicks on perch, less to adulthood. You need a SFYB to be safe. You'll get YB and normal hens and SFYB and normal cocks.
Of course, in a colony flight you have no control over what she does with whom

Oh wow, didn't know that. I wonder what the reason is?
You are right, no control but if the bond is reasonably strong then I assume that most of the time she will stick with her mate apart from the occasional indiscretion...

My birds are bred from DFYB + SFYB and so far so good they are in full breeding condition. But mind me I didn't know at the time that it was lethal to breed that.

Hi Flap,
DF to YB hen being lethal is another myth that floats around, early on in the developement of sex linked yellows it was true but with the wider diversity of genes it doesn'nt hold much truth now.
2 years ago i bred DF to YB hen and for the season they had 16 hatch, 15 of which went through the moult and grew into very nice birds which are still going strong.
It is'nt a combination that i use regularly as i think it can produce hens with weaker colour, but i don't believe that it is any way lethal.

Hi Polar gouldian,I agree with your saying,in the early days it was not a good mating due to the letha gene,as think got along think got better,I have no problem when pairing up and produce good quailty sibling.
