Fair point in both of your last posts and I totally agree. However, one cannot reasonably be cranky or direct blame when somebody sells you a normal and it ends up being a split - as it is unreasonable and unrealistic for most people to undertake the test breeding Ian and I describe.Tiaris wrote:Plus the idea of breeding roughly an extra 100 yellows and/or splits just to ascertain the purity of every 10 red phenotype birds, totally sucks to someone who doesn't like the yellow mutation.

Totally agree with the last 3 posts. Hence my suggested way of doing things and accepting the reality of genetics in regard to recessive mutations.

I hope you are all happy for me as I have solved my problem.
No more Yellow Painteds, no more splits, how did I do it.
Simple, I just ordered 10 pair of "pure" Red Painted.
All my current stock will be moved on and all those getting them will be told that they have yellow in their blood lines.
Now isn't that easier !!!!!!!

In case you haven't noticed I'm not into smilies & the like, but . I do hope for your sake that the seller of the "pure normals" has x-ray vision where he/she can see into the genotype of their birds & that they contain all heterozygous red genes. Good luck with that.
