I dropped into a produce store out in the country and they had a few birds for sale. Any ideas as to what they might be?

Not quite sure, but i recall seeing similar birds on an Aviary tour in Cessnock and the guys there werent sure of what they had either.

The birds they had, had also been through 2 moults and it didnt moult out by that stage.

I am interested to see if anyone now knows.

Very interesting.
How many of these did they have.
Where was the produce at and how much did they want for them

There were about 6 or so odd looking gouldians. They didn't have a price on them.

I would have asked the price. These may just be melanistic, or they could be the start of a whole new mutation.

Hi everyone on this page this bird with they are calling them melanistic, are birds that were not getting enough sun light and in darker room causing the bird feather to go darker(meaning yellow go daker, purple in the darker and black through it,also green in the back getting black tinge through it too) when they go through another molt in next time around, they will molt to a normal bird(melanistic does not exist in a mutation, they only make you think that it is another mutation)

cheer from tony (tino)

The first two photos are from an outdoor aviary so I wouldn't have thought lack of sunlight would cause the colour changes, although I don't know how long they had been in the aviary for. The third photo was a dark cabinet with no access to sunlight.

Bad white breasts, genes are not clean nor precise colours as they should be. Cant explain the orange head with black down the front..
They might look pretty but I wouldnt go anywhere near those birds theres too many funky looking birds in the one cage probably all from tasmania :lolno:
