Unusual for Paleheaded Rosella?

Over the years I have had the pleasure of watching small family groups (mainly between 3 and 5 birds) But the last couple of days I have seen 30 plus or more of them flying out of the guinea grass on the main haul road of the minesite (not the same group as I have driven past numerous flocks 5 to 10 mins apart) so I am quite amazed having never seen this many at any one time.....looks like they love the fresh greens

Hi vettepilot,
Was the flock mostly composed of young birds flocking together after the breeding season or was it all adult birds?

If they were young they were coloured up....young adults maybe?

I had a similar experience with Mulga parrots here just before Christmas , i had only ever seen small groups but was lucky enough to come across a group of 30 odd birds.

Update .....The Pale Rosellas are now flyin in much smaller flocks (2 n 3 birds)....But I have started going to another ramp and down each side is miles of Johnson and Guinea Grass...and about 24 King Parrots exploded out of it as I drove past....plus what looks like Zebra Finches but cant get close enough
have seen them in there the last 3 days

It's great to hear such a possative story of birds and mining side by side. We all know there are possative as well as negative storys but the negatives are far more likely to be told. Keep on informing us VP.
And of course if you can lean out the window and snap a pic or two.
